Along with Clay readers get to hear Hannah’s story; from her first kiss to the night she decided to end her life. The story shows that a person's action effects others. The effect might not be evident, but sure enough for every act, there are repercussions.

“No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same.”With each tape, Clay struggles with different emotions and so does the reader; as though the tapes were sent to you. Not only by the end of the story does the reader wish that they could have saved Hannah, but you will not want the story to end. There are so many unanswered questions that will never be solved. The last chapter will leave the reader with mixed of feelings from sadness, anger, perplexity, etc.
